Formerly the attorney general of the Seneca Nation of Indians, he is now a law professor and Dean's Research Scholar of Indigenous Nations Law at Syracuse University. Porter founded the Center for Indigenous Law, Governance and Citizenship. He also established the Tribal Law and Government Center to prepare a new generation of advocates for careers representing indigenous nations' legal interests. Porter serves as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Sac & Fox Nation of Missouri and is a consulting expert or counsel to several Indian nations and organizations. Porter holds a B.A. from Syracuse University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
